Corpstarter™ Competition Announces Its Winning Teams

Five Teams Stand Out in the Fierce Competition of 78 Groups of Innovative Entrepreneurs on Aug. 8


NEW YORK, August 9th, 2013 – CorpStarter™ Business Accelerator is pleased to announce its winners and runners-up of the Jiangsu Science and Technology Venture Competition North America.

The First Place Award went to Gerijoy, a technology team providing senior companion service with a tablet-based virtual pet. Two teams were awarded second place and they were WordLogic (WLGC), a patented predictive text input technology provider, and Empire Robotics, a Cornell University technology spinout that has developed a universal robot gripper. JACTMedia and MappedOn were the two teams arriving in third place. JACTMedia is a gamer social rewards platform with in-game advertising and MappedOn provides an open marketplace for restaurants to manage their online orders.

These winning teams were selected by judges with extensive experience in the financial industry. The judge panel consists of Brian Cohen, a professional angel investor and Chairman at New York Angels; Dr. Daxi Li, a tech angel investor and Chairman of Chinese Association for Science and Business (CSAB); Dr. Alan Paau, Vice Provost of Cornell University; Lijie Zhu, Managing Director of Dragon Gate Investment Partners and recipient of Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business; Gary Jiang, a senior consultant in financial services and e-Commerce; Harry Krausman, Managing Director and Principal at Cassidy Turley; Joseph Daniels, Managing Partner of Loeb and Loeb; Peter Lau, president of Greenstone Holding Group and Managing Director of Buckman, Buckman & Reid; Tony Chen, Vice President of China Unicom America Operations; and Mr. Walter Huang, a VC veteran with 230,000 followers on Sina Weibo.

In addition, two other teams with innovative business ideas were invited to share their entrepreneurial stories with the audience. One was Finggo, a holographic 3D interaction technology provider and the other was CorpOnline™, a platform that integrates social media and big data into traditional financing activities.

The Competition ended with a networking cruise gala, where winning teams continued to pitch their innovative projects to investors and the press. Five winning teams have determined to further pursue their entrepreneurial dream in China, by entering into the final round of China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition Jiangsu Division on August 20th in Suzhou, Jiangsu.
